How It All Began….

Paul Keller

Like most wood workers, the journey Paul took to develop his skills was fairly common. Starting with various tree forts in his parents back yard, working his way up to high school wood butchery and eventually extending his education into more serious trade training in BCIT’s joinery program. Interestingly, while in this program he met a certain girl who was also into wood….hhhmmm wonder who that could be???

Like many people in different professions who continually upgrade, keep with the times and get back to the raw grass roots level from where their passion stems from, Paul has also taken courses at the Inside Passage School of Fine Wood Working. This school is a place where true artisans can take the time to really fuse their passions and their skills together to simply create without constraint.

Brandy Kawulka

With a more diverse path into the world of woodworking ranging from professional ballet dancing to coffee slinging and beyond, Brandy was on a tour of the BCIT campus and became enchanted as the sun filtered down through the windows into the dust-filled joinery shop. It was then and there that she decided that joinery and the wood medium were right up her artistic ally. After completing the ELTT program, Brandy continued honing her skills on the job and completed the 4 yr apprenticeship program to become a ticketed journey-woman.  Not only did she find a skill, but a passion and her partner in crime. I wonder how fast he had to move to get her attention?

Together….

Our combined industry experience is vast. Between us, we’ve worked for small and large companies. Ones that were lower end and higher end. Ones that were full custom shops and ones full production in nature. All had great things to offer up and coming cabinetmakers. After years of honing our skills not only on the tools, but the design and project management areas, we decided to take the leap and open our own custom woodworking shop and then added to our offerings by taking on the general contracting role with Wood Be Art Renovations.

Along the way, we’ve developed a healthy work+life balance with two kids and have through word of mouth, grown our business. We’ve created hundreds of custom made furniture pieces and helped to take the nightmares out of our clients’ renovation dreams.  Our attention to the smallest details, traditional work ethic, customer service and skilled craftsmanship has turned many New Westminster and surrounding area houses into extraordinary homes.
